Graceful Rhapsody by Louise Madore took first place. I remember this one as the New Mexico State Fair Best of Show. The designs were fussy cut and machine appliquéd using decorative stitches. The pattern is an adaptation of Graceful Rhapsody by Denise Sheehan, and the fabric is from Quilting Treasures Jasmine collection.Free motion was done on a domestic machine using polyester thread.
M'eyu Hano "Lizard Clan" by Cynthia Figueroa-McInteer took Judge's Choice. The sandy background and adorable lizards make me smile. According to Cynthia, "Custom mylar template was used for the head and body curved piecing. Fussy Cut stripes align from head to tail."
Revisiting Grandma's Flower Garden, and original piece by Donice Wagner, was selected for first place. She sought to use 1930's reproduction fabrics in a modern way.
Multiple techniques were used including embellishing with family buttons and rick-rack, folding hexagons and tucking a bit of stuffing behind them, and machine appliqué.
The long-arm quilting contains multiple designs.
Ray of Light earned Victoria Romero-Cederberg Judge's Choice.
