Blogger's Quilt Festival: Mini Quilt

If you've come here by way of the Blogger's Quilt Festival, thanks for visiting. Feel free to look around here at Quilting Mod. I have compiled quilt alongs, free patterns, and a listing of linky parties for your viewing pleasure.
I'm going to have Houston Quilt Market coverage coming up shortly, as well as a fantastic giveaway, so I recommend you follow via Bloglovin' using the button below, or your preferred method in the sidebar so you can easily find your way back after you check out all the fun at the Blogger's Quilt Festival.

Today's show & tell was created for the American Made Brand Tiny Quilt Challenge. While it was not accepted into the exhibit, it was a welcome distraction from my impending baby delivery. The Passacaglia quilt from Millefiori Quilts was my source of inspiration.
To construct my design, I used pattern blocks, which are hand-on math materials for elementary students. (I was running a little low on the orange squares.)
Instead of employing English Paper Piecing, I combined paper-piecing, hand appliqué, and traditional piecing complete with ample y-seams. While unlikely to be the most advisable construction method, it was undoubtably effective in preventing me from ruminating about the unpleasantries of giving birth.
I used matchstick quilting in the background, mostly in a matching navy thread, with random occurrences of thread colors that match the pieces. It finished at 14" square and was dubbed Geometric Flurry.
If you are curious about other AMB Tiny Quilt Challenge entries, check out the minis Louise at I'm Feeling Crafty, Alida at Tweety Loves Quilting, and Stephanie at Spontaneous Threads created.

  9. Hi Afton. Thank you so much for linking up to Thriving on Thursdays last week. I just wanted to say how clever you are to put this together. I'm barely capable of pulling the sewing machine out! Such a lovely and complex pattern. I'm giving you a special shout out on my Facebook page and Twitter. I couldn't count this week and only featured 2 non food posts in my Thriving on Thursdays party round up this week. Thanks again for linking up. It is lovely to meet you.
