UFO Invasion

I'm going to be straight with you here. I didn't even dig into the closet to include the unfinished projects therein. After snapping as many shots as the paparazzi in my main sewing area, I decided I was already aiming high. Here comes my personal shame...
Ok, I'm over the personal shame. Let's look at this in a glass half full kind of way. Just think of how great it is that I have such a nice start on so many things...so, so, so many things. Just think of how much farther along I am on these projects than if I hadn't even begun. (Don't tell me how I could have completed projects instead bits and pieces if I focused on one project at a time instead of flitting around like a fairy on Redbull. This is my quilting happy land, and there's no place here for the cold hard truth.) I could quilt for years without starting another project. But I will, because clearly I can't help myself! I am an awesome starter.

For the Year of Lovely Finishes, I'm picking Tutti Frutti (as I can pick only one project even though that feels so wrong) to finish. It just needs a bit more quilting.

  1. I have lots of tops with backs that just need to be sandwiched and quilted. I just keep piecing and piecing. I can quilt them, and I will, but I have to psyche myself up for it! Just know that you're not alone... You have many BEAUTIFUL projects started, and I am going to follow your blog so I can see your progress!

  2. Way to go! I have an infinite capacity for unfinished, so I identify with your number and desire to start new things anyway. You have some lovely projects to choose to work on (or not).

  3. There is no shame in having a beautiful pile of inspiration. ;)

  4. I'd like to know what sewer out there that doesn't have a big pile of unfinished projects sitting around? Of course it's great to cross the finish line, but sometimes just the running is fun too.

  6. You are so lucky to have a stack of great projects to choose from whenever you want to work on something different! I say keep the projects coming - they'll get finished when the time is right! :)

  7. I haven't counted my UFO pile yet, have been happily ignoring it but you've prompted me to really sort them out and pull a few to finish!

  8. Oh I absolutely love your outlook!! "I'm an awesome starter." I think that's what I'll call myself. It didn't take me long to develop UFOs (I even have started clothing projects that I dropped when I caught the quilt bug). I just learned to quilt in 2012 (I'm still learning), and already I'm hopping from project to project. I told myself I could only have four plastic project bins because that's all that would fit under the dresser drawers in my sewing room . . . and you guessed it, I bought two more. And there are others in baskets and cardboard boxes. Yup, I'm an awesome starter!

  9. Where's the shame? You're doing this for a hobby because you love it...so if you love starting new projects, go for it! Buuut, if you are feeling a little weighed down by the old stuff, I think setting up a less regimented thing than "I will start no new projects" might be more helpful. Kind of like a Weight Watchers for quilting... I can start a new project only on Tuesdays, or after I finish 2 old projects, or only when Jupiter is in retrograde...if there's no "out" you'll get bogged down and not enjoy it anymore, at least I would. :)

  10. I love your attitude! Yes, quilting is our thing - our happy thing. Love your choice for a finish goal. That Tutti Fruiti is such a pretty quilt. It must be finished and shown off!

  13. 'Flitting around like a fairy on Red Bull'. I do that, and I don't even know what Red Bull tastes like! If you are like me, it will get finished ... Eventually.

  14. Yay for awesome starters! So much more fun than working on one project at a time :)

  15. You have such a fun attitude about it! Tutti Frutti looks like the perfect project to work on for a cold winter's day!

  16. You go! You're preaching to the choir. I have no shame either when I start a new project. I think everything I see here is fabulous. I wouldn't know what to finish first either.

  18. Hi Afton, I love your mariner's compass block. The colors you chose for Tutti Frutti are so beautiful. BTW, I am choosing to feature you at KISMIF this week, and as so, I give away a free quilt pattern (of my writing) to anyone featured. Visit my blog's links to the craftsy/etsy shop, let me know what is your favorite and I'll respond to the email with it attached. Thanks for sharing!--Shannon
