Today's Trend - Pixel Quilts

Pixelated quilts take a concept familiar in the realm of computer imagery and apply it to piecing a quilt top.

Any fan of Dr. Who can appreciate Krisy Daum of St. Louis Folk Victorian's pixelated masterpiece shown here. She used Pic 2 Pat, a free program that turns images into cross-stitch patterns, to create her quilt.

The Victoria and Albert Museum has a free online program that can assist in turning a picture into a pattern as well.

Cut to Pieces by Angela Pingel features a Super Mario Brothers Quilt Along complete with a detailed explanation of the technique used.

Elizabeth Hartman at Oh, Fransson! made this clever quilt inspired by Space Invaders.

Julie Pinzur of Ziperteeth created this beauty by pixelating an image on Photoshop.

For further instruction, Caro Sheridan teaches a free Pictures to Pixels class on Craftsy.

Construction methods vary, but Elizabeth of Oh Frannson! has a nice guest post at Sew Mama Sew that explains her process for piecing tiny squares quickly.
